2012 Greenberg Traurig Ultra Miles for Moffitt 12-Hour Endurance Run

Hello, Ultrarunners and Wanna-Bes.

We have set a date for the 2012 Greenberg Traurig Ultra Miles for Moffitt 12-Hour Endurance Run − Saturday, April 21, beginning at 7 p.m. and finishing at 7 a.m. on Sunday, April 22.

You may choose to run on the University of South Florida track, a certified 400-meter Mondo (rubberized) surface, OR you may run on the adjacent 1.25-mile par course trail. We will have Mike Melton again to do electronic lap-counting for the track. For those who run on the trail, you will need to provide your own method for lap-counting or distance management. If you want to run a little on both surfaces, feel free, but only your laps on the track will be counted. Last year, we had a few runners opt for the trail/track option.

The track will be lighted, restrooms are very accessible and the music will play all night. The trail will have only partial lighting − the portion that runs along the track − so bring a headlamp or flashlight. The trail surface is mostly hard-packed sand. There may be construction in the area of the trail, so we may have to shorten the distance somewhat, but it will still be on the trail.

We will have a single aid station that will be accessible to both venues. Please feel free to bring your own food and drink. We will have water and Hammer Nutrition Heed and basic aid-station food. As we get closer, I will have a better menu for you.

I will send another email after the first of the year when we get the registration link set up. We have our own registration page again to avoid confusion with the Miles for Moffitt races that are scheduled for May 12, 2012.

The registration fee is $75 with an additional $75 suggested donation to Moffitt Cancer Center. Once we get the Active.com registration set up, you will have the option of setting up your own sponsorship/fundraising account and have your donors go there to donate online. Every dollar from your registration fee and every dollar from your fundraising will go to cancer research at the Moffitt Cancer Center. Last year, 32 runners raised more than $7,000.

The track has a 75 runner maximum, so get your entry in early. We have no limit for the trail. There is no option to choose track or trail on the registration page, so just email me with your preference after you register.

Greenberg Traurig is the title sponsor for the third consecutive year, and we very much appreciate their participation.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I hope you are able to make it, and please spread the word. I would love to have 50 folks running around the track this year and another couple dozen on the trail.

Sincerely,

Pete Pfannerstill, Race Director
