Miles For Moffitt

A foot race for the prevention and cure of cancer…

Miles for Moffitt has partnered with Bank of St. Petersburg to present the Third Annual Bank of St. Petersburg Miles for Moffitt run and walk to benefit the Moffitt Cancer Center. Last year’s successful event attracted over 2000 participants and raised $75,000 for the state of the art cancer research being done at Moffitt.

Bank of St. Petersburg Miles for Moffitt will be held Saturday, May 10th at the University of South Florida Sun Dome. Registration starts at 6 a.m. and the event begins at 7:30 a.m. The venue includes a 5K run as well as a 1-mile fun run/walk for all age groups. Walkers are welcome to join in any of the venues.

Karen Dalton, wife of William S. Dalton, Ph.D., M.D., Moffitt CEO and Center Director conceived the idea for the run/walk. She initiated the event as an opportunity for area residents who want to support Moffitt to participate in a fun, affordable event that has a health benefit.

New this year is the celebration and special recognition for survivors of all types of cancer. Increased survival rate and prevention of cancer is made possible by the very research being done at Moffitt. In 2001, Moffitt became a National Cancer Institute designated Comprehensive Cancer Center one of only 39 in the nation.

“Our goal was to create a fundraising venue that truly reaches across the entire fabric of the community, and we are grateful to Bank of St. Petersburg for helping make this event a reality,” said Mrs. Dalton. “It is an enjoyable, affordable event where the community can support Moffitt’s mission, and at the same time honor survivors and remember loved ones in a setting that promotes fitness and well being.”
