Miles for Moffitt Volunteers

Would you like to participate in the Miles for Moffitt race without being a runner? Volunteering is just as important! We need volunteers to make the day happen! If you’d like to volunteer, just print and fill out Volunteer Registration form. Look below for a list a volunteer positions and descriptions.

Saturday May 10, 2008 (at USF Sun Dome)

Volunteer Check-In: Assist in monitoring volunteers’ signing in and out. Make sure volunteers understand where they are supposed to be, and what their duties are. Pass out volunteer T-shirt and any other necessary equipment (e.g. red flags, vests, rain coats, and whistle). Help supply any food and/or drinks to fellow volunteers. Assist in the orderly return of all officials and volunteers' personal belongings before and after the race.

Athlete Check-In: Assist race participants in preparing for the race. Help them register and sign-in properly, make sure all necessary race gear is intact, and direct them to the proper areas. Keep order and professionalism. Hand out last minute materials and answer any questions participants may have.

Chip Distribution: Work the booth where race participants pick up their race chips prior to the 5K event. Make sure everyone knows what to do with the chips – that they must be removed at the finish line or Moffitt is charged for each individual chip. Move to the finish line once race has started to remove chips from runners shoes after they have completed the race. Replace chips back into the correct slots.

Food Tent: Prepare the food tent while the racers are on the course, placing out fresh fruit, granola, icing down water, etc. Ensure area around the station is clean. Prepare unused food and drinks for distribution to area soup kitchens.

Course Marshals: Direct runners on the correct race routes. Keep the routes clear for the runners. Alert medical officer(s) if a participant requires medical attention. Control volunteers and on-lookers at designated areas around the course. Direct runners to stay within race boundaries (i.e. cones)

Motivational Support: You are there to support the runners. You will cheer them on as they race, and be there for any questions they may have. Speaking with the participants and motivating them to complete the race is your goal. You are there for the racer’s needs!

Finish Line: Cheer & support all participants as they approach the finishing line. Help pass out water and wet rags to those who have finished. Direct finished runners where to go, where they can get food, beverages, or use the restroom.

Floater: Floaters will be placed wherever they are needed. They could be moved from different stations, or help fill stations that don’t have enough volunteers. They, too, will serve as motivational supporters.
